Tuesday, June 11th, 2013 3:51:04 by Tahir KhanPresident Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday appointed Muhammad Khan Achakzai, brother of Mehmood Khan Achakzai, as Governor Balochistan.
The decision was taken on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Muhammad is the elder brother of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) senior vice president Mehmood Khan Achakzai.
On June 9, the president accepted resignation of Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfikar Ali Magsi.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had offered the governorship to the PKMAP and the Chief Minister slot to the BNP.
The appointment of Achakzai brother has surprised many in the country as family politics was given preference in the appointment.
Mr Sharif has also accommodated the BNP by awarding it the slot of the chief minister despite PML-N emerged the single largest party in the province.
The Prime Minister Tuesday congratulated Dr. Abdul Malik on his unanimous election as Chief Minister Balochistan and assured him that the Federal Government would extend all possible assistance to the government of Balochistan.
While talking to Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch in Islamabad, the Prime Minister directed the Chief Minister to initiate a process of reconciliation with estranged Baloch elements and convey to them on his behalf his desire to see their participation in national mainstream.
The Prime Minister expressed the resolve that his government wants to usher in a new era in Balochistan and work for removing the bitterness of the past and start a new page of everlasting love and affection.
