Balochistan mourns killings in terror attacks
Sunday, June 16th, 2013 1:30:40 by Tahir KhanNormal life was disrupted in most parts of Balochistan on Sunday to protest against the killings of girls’ students and civilians in militant attacks on a hospital in Quetta.
Nearly 25 people, including 14 students of a women university, were killed and dozens more injured in suicide bombing and attacks on a main hospital where injured girls students were being treated.
The banned group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the attacks on the university bus and Bolan Medical Complex in Quetta, the provincial capital.
The group’s spokesman Abubakar said that a female bomber ‘Ayesha Siddiqa’ carried out the attack on the university bus when the students were boarding the bus.
The target of Shiite students but officials said that the bomber killed Shiites and Sunnis.
The attacks have widely been condemned as an inhuman act to target innocent people and especially girl students.
The Balochistan government had announced a day of mourning while Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami party had called for a general strike in Balochistan.
Business activities halted and traffic was thin on roads due to the strike call in Quetta and other major cities.
The National Flag hoisted at half mast on all Government establishments.
The atmosphere and environment of Quetta is very gloomy as the incidents shocked the people.
Funerals were held for some slain people including a senior officer who was also killed in terror attack on hospital.
The district administration had made security arrangements in the city to maintain law and order situation in the city.
Meanwhile‚ the death toll of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University and Bolan Medical Complex incidents has risen to 25 as several injured died of wounds, doctors said.
