Taliban claim shooting down ISAF helicopter, drone
Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 2:31:54 by Tahir KhanAfghan Taliban say that they have shot down a helicopter of ISAF forces in western Afghanistan, but officials say that the helicopter made an emergency landing, reports said Tuesday.
The Taliban spokesman, Qari Mohammad Yousaf Ahmadi, said that the Taliban shot down the foreign forces’ helicopter during a clash in the Garani area in Balabolok District of Farah Province late Monday, the Afghan Islamic Press [AIP] reported. He added that all the people on board were killed.
Meanwhile, the head of Balabolok District, Sayed Mohammad Khan, told AIP that a helicopter of the foreign forces had made an emergency landing in the Garani area of this district. However, nobody was hurt in this incident. He added that 10 Taliban were killed during an operation in this area and security forces suffered no casualties.
The ISAF forces’ press office in Kabul said: “The engine of one of their aircraft went out of order before take-off in western Afghanistan this morning, 18 June. All the people of the aircraft were rescued and nobody was hurt.” The press office added that no activities of the opponents were reported in the area.
However, ISAF reported in another statement that the Afghan special forces, who were supported by foreign soldiers, detained five opponents during an operation in Balabolok District of Farah Province yesterday.
Meanwhile an unmanned aircraft of ISAF forces crashed in Maruf District of Kandahar Province and the Taliban reported shooting it down.
The spokesman for governor of Kandahar Province, Javed Faisal, said that an unmanned aircraft of ISAF forces had crashed due to a technical problem in the Malyano wa Kabuli area in Maruf District yesterday, 17 June. He added that the aircraft had crashed in a mountainous area where the opponents’ presence was not observed.
The Taliban spokesman, Qari Yusof said that the Taliban had shot down this aircraft in the Nawa area of Sakzai in this district. The Taliban spokesman said that the Taliban had taken the crashed aircraft with them.
