Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Imran Khan Wednesday urged the government to evolve consensus to address the root causes of terrorism.

Opposing the US drone strikes in the tribal regions in his first speech in the National Assembly‚ Imran Khan said these are claiming lives of innocent people.

He said the government and the opposition should collectively frame a policy to bring an end to the drone strikes.

He said the war against terrorism has claimed numerous lives as well as dented our economy. He said we cannot remain silent on this issue and serious and collective efforts are required to address the issue.

Khan said his party will extend full support to the government on national issues as these can only be resolved through consensus.

The PTI chief said Allah Almighty has blessed Pakistan with different resources including gold‚ copper and coal and responsibility rests with all of us to put the country on the right track.

Imran Khan emphasized the need for restructuring of tax system to enhance tax collection. He‚ however‚ said that taxes imposed in the current budget will further increase poverty and price-hike.

Earlier the PTI chief took oath as member of the National Assembly in Islamabad. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq administered oath to him.

On May 7, as the election campaign touched its peak, Khan fell off a 15-metre-high forklift during a rally in Lahore, suffering serious injuries to his back.

Later, Khan, whose party has emerged as the second most vote-winning party in the recent polls, spent almost a month at the Shaukat Khannum Memoral Hospital recovering from his injuries.

Khan then arrived in Islamabad on June 13 after doctors at SKMH discharged him from the hospital and cleared him for travelling.
