PML-N gov’t to unveil new security policy

Senior security officials meet in Islamabad later Thursday to formulate a new policy to deal with the issue of terrorism and the role of intelligence agencies, officials say.
Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, will preside over the meeting. Intelligence officials will also attend the meeting.
Khan told the National Assembly on Monday that he had convened a meeting of civil armed forces to discuss a new security policy to effectively deal with the terrorism.
He was critical at the performance of the law enforcement agencies in Quetta following two recent terror attacks.
Sources said the meeting would deliberate on, formulating a new security policy, coordination with provincial governments and government’s policies and priorities on law and order.
The new security policy will be announced after the deliberations.
Meanwhile Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt Gen Muhammad Zahir ul Islam, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s Office this morning, the PM office said.
During the meeting, the Director General apprised the Prime Minister about the working of his organization, a statement from the PM office said.
“Furthermore, matters pertaining to national security and regional stability came under discussion”.
Nisar has disclosed that the Prime Minister will also invite chiefs of political parties to discuss the issue of US drone strikes and terrorism.
The army chief and intelligence heads will also attend the meeting.
