Musharraf treason trial: SC seeks gov’t reply in three days
Monday, June 24th, 2013 2:35:43 by Tahir KhanThe Supreme Court has directed the Attorney General Munir A. Malik to submit written reply by Thursday regarding the actions the government wants to take in the registration of the case of high treason against Pervez Musharraf.
The court issued directive during the hearing of the case on Monday shortly after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in the National Assembly that his government will pursue high treason case against Musharraf.
Earlier Attorney General Munir A. Malik submitted government point of view before the Supreme Court with regard to the issue of registering case against former dictator Pervez Musharraf for violating the constitution.
The case relates to imposition of emergency on 3 November 2007.
He assured the court that the federal government will implement the judgement of Supreme Court in Sindh High Court bar association petition regarding high treason case against Musharraf.
The Attorney General said that implementation under Article 6 of the Constitution has begun from today. He sought thirty days from the court for setting up of a free prosecution and a trial agency.
He said the government is determined to bring to justice the violators of the constitution as this act is deemed to high treason.
Lawyer of Pervez Musharraf‚ Ibrahim Satti‚ submitted before the court that name of his client may be removed from the exit control list. The court directed him to submit another application for this purpose.
Later the hearing of the case was adjourned by Thursday.
