Islamabad police arrest two suspects involved in PTI MPA’s murder
Tuesday, June 25th, 2013 2:58:37 by Tahir KhanThe Islamabad Police has arrested two youths accused of involving in the murder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA, Farid Khan, a police officer said on Tuesday.
Farid was killed in Hangu on June 3. He had won the PK-42 (Hangu-I) seat as an independent candidate and had then joined PTI.
Police said the two persons were arrested during an operation in Tarnol area of Islamabad. They had arrived in Islamabad after the incident. The police raided their residence on a tip off.
Accused Asifullah Jan and Abid had been members of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. However, later they had joined a Taliban splinter group headed by Muhammad Nabi alias Kakey.
They were produced in front of the media at a press conference in Islamabad.
Talking to reporters they confessed killing of Farid Khan at the orders from a Taliban commander.
Asifullah said that the commander had told him to kill Farid Khan as he was promoting the ‘Panjpeeri’ thoughts. Panjpeeris are based in Swabi district.
According to police officer, Yaseen Farooq, the suspect Asifullah had received terrorism training for four years.
Around 35 cases were filed against the suspect and all of them are terrorism-related.
Farid had won the elections with 16,129 votes. His closest rival was Atiqur Rehman of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) who got 12,797 votes.
The deceased MPA’s brother Shamsur Rehman had filed an FIR at Hangu police station accusing JUI-F’s Atiq, his brother Shafiqur Rehman and uncle Noor Rehman of being responsible for Farid’s murder.
