A bomb attack, targeting a senior judge, killed six police guards and a paramilitary soldier in Karachi on Wednesday, a minister said.
Senior Judge of Sindh High Court Justice Maqbool Baqar was also injured in the blast, a police officer said. He was shifted to a private hospital. Doctors avoided sharing information with the media.
Police said that driver of the judge was among the dead.
A police officer said Sindh High Court Justice Baqar Maqbool’s motorcade was the target of the attackers.
The judge was heading to courts when the bomb believed to be attached to a motorbike exploded near his motorcade.
Sharjeel Memon, Information Minister in Sindh Province confirmed seven people died in the blast. He told reporters that 15 other people were injured.
The injured include four police personnel and a paramilitary Rangers officer.
Memon said preliminary investigation suggests that the bomb was attached to a motorbike and was parked along the road. Memon evaded questions about the health condition of the judge and said the people should pray for him.
However, police teams are investigating if a suicide bomber was riding the motorcycle.
A police mobile van and two motorbikes were damaged in the blast at Burns Road.
Deputy inspector general Ami Shaikh said that six teams have been formed to investigate the attack.
No group claimed responsibility. Taliban and banned militant groups are blamed for such attacks.
