British Prime Minister arrives in Islamabad on 2-day visit
Saturday, June 29th, 2013 7:44:59 by Tahir KhanBritish Prime Minister David Cameron arrived in Islamabad on an official visit Saturday to hold wide ranging talks with Pakistani leadership, officials said.
He arrived in Pakistan after his two-day visit to Afghanistan where he met with British soldiers and held talks with President Hamid Karzai on peace process.
Minister for Science and Technology, Zahid Hamid, senior officials and diplomats received the British Foreign Minister on his arrival in Islamabad.
Officials say that during his stay in Islamabad‚ he will hold talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on the regional situation with particular reference to the Afghan reconciliation process.
Both the leaders will also discuss ways to further expand Pak-UK bilateral cooperation in various fields, Radio Pakistan reported.
David Cameron will call on President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday.
British Prime Minister will also meet business leaders in Islamabad and discuss new avenues of bilateral cooperation for enhancing trade and investment.
He will also have interaction with young students and discuss various regional and international issues with them.
This is the first visit of a world leader since the formation of the new government in Pakistan following the May 11 elections.
Reports said that during the visit, Mr Cameron and Mr Sharif would get a chance to assess the progress achieved in the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue the two countries have been holding since 2011.
The dialogue covers five areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade and business, finance and development assistance, education and health and culture, and defence and security.
Both sides would also review their cooperation in the Afghan peace process.
Pakistan and Britain had agreed in a trilateral summit with Afghanistan in February on a six-month peace initiative in the war-torn Afghanistan.
