Monday, July 1st, 2013 12:09:43 by Tahir KhanNormal life was disrupted in Quetta on Monday on calls for a shutter-down strike against the deadly suicide bombing, which killed 30 people including women and children.
The bombing in Hazara Town area also injured nearly 60 people and badly damaged several shops and vehicles, police say.
The banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the attack which killed and injured civilians. The group usually takes responsibility for attacks on Shia Muslims.
Shiite groups and Hazara community had called for a strike to condemn the bombing and express solidarity with the affected families. They criticized the police and other law enforcement agencies for failure to break the network of terrorists who strike in the city wherever and whenever they want.
All main markets were closed in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan and traffic almost off the roads, residents said.
Trader associations and some political groups had also backed the call.
Security forces had been on alert and additional force was deployed to maintain peace in the city and to avoid any terrorist act.
The Quetta Police chief, Mir Zubair, said late Sunday that a suicide bomber, wearing women cloth, tried to enter Imambargah ‘Abu Taliab” when the people were coming out after offering evening prayers. He detonated his bomb when the police tried to stop him, he said.
The mosque was located in a marketplace, which was crowded at the time of the blast as the people were busy in their routine shopping.
Meanwhile doctors said that two more injured died of wounds on Monday, raising the death toll to 30.
They said several injured are in critical conditions. The injured are being treated in the city’s lone military and civilian hospitals.
The government Monday formed a six-member investigation committee.
Quetta has been under attack by the extremists in recent months and innocent people were killed and injured in the series of attacks.
