Nawaz Sharif: Multi-pronged strategy to overcome energy crisis

Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has said that government is working on a multi-pronged strategy to overcome the shortage of electricity in the country.

In an interview with China Central Television in Beijing‚ he said the country would be utilizing coal‚ hydel and alternative sources to generate power.

Nawaz Sharif said he has also discussed cooperation with Chinese leaders in infrastructure development especially construction of metro system in Karachi‚ Lahore and Islamabad.

“We will try to start these projects as soon as possible as there is a dire need to solve the transportation problems of the people of big cities likes Karachi.”

Meanwhile the Prime Minister said that his government desired to generate maximum chunk of power through coal for permanent deliverance from load-shedding.

Traveling from Beijing to Shanghai through high speed train, the Prime Minister held four meetings with different delegates and discussed with them the power and infrastructure projects with regard to Pakistan.

During a meeting with the Prime Minister, Vice President China Machinery Engineering Corporation Jin Chunsheng told the Prime Minister that his company had long been engaged in power sector of Pakistan and currently working on a power project in Jamshoro.

The Prime Minister said his government desired to generate maximum chunk of electricity through coal to get low-priced electricity and get rid of power outages.

Jin Chunsheng told the Prime Minister that his company was capable to manufacture coal turbines having the capacity to generate up to 1000 megawatts as usually coal turbines generate maximum 5000 megawatts of electricity.

 

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed desire to run the furnace oil-fired power generation units through coal.
