Musharraf’s woes grow as IHC orders Lal Masjid case registration
Friday, July 12th, 2013 2:19:28 by Tahir KhanFormer military president, Pervez Mushararf, will now face another case as the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday ordered the registration of a case against him for his alleged involvement in the Lal Masjid military raids.
Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi of the IHC issued the order during the hearing of a petition filed by Haroon Rasheed, son of Lal Masjid’s Ghazi Abdul Rashid, against Musharraf for his involvement in the killing of his father and grandmother.
Ghazi Rashid, his mother and nephew were among dozens of people who were killed during the operation in 2007.
Justice Qureshi ordered said that Haroon Rasheed’s statement should be recorded.
A number of witnesses in their statements had alleged that Musharraf, then president of Pakistan, was responsible for the action.
Haroon Rasheed through his counsel Tariq Asad sought case registration against Musharraf for the murder of his father and grandmother.
Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi asked for Haroon Rasheed’s statement to be recorded by police officials.
On July 3, 2007, Musharraf had ordered a military operation against the mosque for challenging the writ of the state.
The military besieged the mosque for 12 days before assaulting the compound, an attack in which hundreds of students were killed.
Ghazi Rashid had offered to leave the mosque but President Mushararf refused to accept the offer amd launched operation.
