The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Monday took notice of 22-hour power outages in the tribal areas, the court’s media section says.
The notice was taken on an application of Mr. Hilal-ur-Rehman, Senator registered through Human Rights Cell of Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad. He stated the miserable plight of residents of FATA who were suffering 22 hours of load-shedding per day.
He further stated in his application, “TESCO represents FATA region and NPCC provides us electricity through both TESCO and PESCO in a combined way. PESCO receives from NPCC 15% electricity and FATA’s share in it is 3% only; even if we are given this allocated amount of 3% electricity supply in FATA, we would have been saved from brunt of this cruel load-shedding. TESCO quota is 307 MWS but the fact of the matter is that we are getting less than 160 MWs only for our FATA”.
He further requested that PESCO authorities may be directed to normalize the electric supply for people of FATA.
He further said that he is a resident of Mohmand Agency, lives there and during the ongoing Ramzan, they have to face worst load-shedding upto 18-20 hours per day over there. PESCO is not supplying due share of electricity to Mohmand Agency.
Taking the cognizance, the Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered that a reply of MD National Transmission and Dispatch Company must be sought for hearing of the case.
