Nisar quashes Sindh governor rule rumours
Monday, July 22nd, 2013 11:09:04 by Tahir KhanInterior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday rejected rumours of government plan to impose governor rule and said the media attributes baseness comments to him.
“I do not know as to why such rumours are spread and attributed to me,” Nisar told reporters on his arrival in the city.
He said Karachi is the life line of the national economy and “we cannot afford the prevailing lawlessness in the city.”
The Minister said that there has been no improvement in the law and order situation in Karachi since the PPP government again assumed office few weeks ago.
H said that the federal government will provide all possible assistance to the provincial government to maintain peace and order in Karachi.
He said he would hold meetings with Sindh Governor, Eshrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah to discuss with them the issues and problems facing the provincial government.
He said lawlessness in Karachi affects the whole of Pakistan, adding that the situation of Karachi could not be improved in years.
“I have come to the city to get abreast myself of the current situation and explore ways as how to restore peace in Karachi,” he said, adding that it is the responsibility of the provincial government to deal with the law and order problem.
Nisar said under the 18th Constitutional Amendment‚ maintaining law and order is the provincial subject‚ however the federation will extend all possible help to the provincial administration to bring peace to Karachi.
To a question‚ he said consultation process is underway within the PML-N about nomination of a Presidential candidate and possibly they would announce a final name within couple of days.
He said that he will also meet Pir Pagara and will discuss the presidential elections.
