US acknowledges Pakistan’s role for peace in Afghanistan

Speaking at a briefing in Washington‚ a State Department spokesperson said Pakistan’s own security and stability is tied with successful outcome in Afghanistan.
Commenting on recent visit by Special Advisor to Prime Minister‚ Sartaj Aziz to Kabul‚ the spokesperson said Washington views any step contributing to building Pakistan-Afghanistan relations as “very important”.
Sartaj Aziz during his talks with Afghan President Karzai had expressed Islamabad’s commitment to supporting Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process to end decades of strife in that country.
“We are aware of course that Pakistan’s advisor to the prime minister on national security and foreign affairs Mr. Aziz visited Afghanistan this past weekend. Pakistan is an important partner in supporting a secure and stable Afghanistan, which is vital to the security of the region,” Spokesperson Jen Psaki said at the daily briefing.
She also noted that “Pakistan’s own security and stability is tied with successful outcome in Afghanistan,” where the U.S. is looking to conclude its combat role by the end of 2014.
During his talks with President Hamid Karzai, Pakistan’s advisor Aziz expressed Islamabad’s commitment to supporting Afghan Afghan-led peace and reconciliation to end the decades of strife in the landlocked country.
