PM seeks Fazal ur Rehman support for Mamnoon Hussain
Thursday, July 25th, 2013 12:40:30 by Tahir KhanPrime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday sought support for the PML-N presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain from JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman.
The JUI-F leader met Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s Office and during the meeting, impending presidential election and other matters of mutual interest came under discussion, the PM office said.
The Prime Minister said that President represents the federation and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has chosen a non-controversial figure from a smaller province for the slot with the objective of strengthening the federation, a statement said.
The Prime Minister added that all political parties would be contacted for eliciting maximum support for the PML-N nominee in the upcoming presidential contest.
Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Finance, Maulana Ghafoor Haidri and Mr. Akram Khan Durrani also attended the meeting.
The PML-N and the PPP are campaigning for their candidates and the PPP has already met the JUI-F leader, who had called for a consensus candidate from the opposition parties.
Sources said that the PM and Fazal also discussed the JUI-F’s inclusion in the cabinet. Both sides had discussed the issue over the past one month however they have not yet agreed.
