Gunmen kill 13 passengers in Balochistan
Tuesday, August 6th, 2013 10:04:53 by Tahir KhanUnidentified miscreants have shot dead 13 passengers in restive Balochistan province in an apparent target attack, police said Tuesday.
The passengers were heading to Punjab province from Balochistan for ‘Eid” when gunmen stopped two buses and kidnapped some passengers.
The miscreants later shot them dead and threw their bodies in mountains in Bolan district of Balochistan.
Police sources said that all those killed belonged to Punjab province and that their ethnic background could be the cause of the incident.
Insurgents fighting security forces routinely target non-settlers in Balochistan, officials say.
Police said that the gunmen stopped two passenger coaches heading to Rajanpur in Punjab when stopped by the miscreants in near the town of Mach late Monday.
They took away nearly two dozen passengers after identifying them from identity cards that they are not locals and belong to Punjab province. They were killed later.
Security official said the bodies of the kidnapped were recovered from nearby mountains in the area.
Baloch Liberation Front claims killing 13 security men in Bolan attack. A spokesman for the group said that they had kidnapped 23 passengers and killed 13 as they belonged to law enforcement agencies.
Insurgents have also killed non-locals in target attacks in the past.
Balochistan is also under the grip of sectarian violence as banned sectarian groups target Shiite Muslims time to time.
Critics say the law enforcement agencies have failed so far to break the network of banned militant groups.
