Ban Ki-moon to discuss anti-polio campaign in Pakistan

Ban Ki-moon arrives in Islamabad on a two-day visit on Tuesday, officials say.
During his stay‚ he will discuss steps for polio eradication and promotion of education specially women education with Pakistani leadership, they said.
The World Heath Organization says Pakistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan only three countries remain polio-endemic in the world in 2013.
On Sunday, officials in the lawless North Waziristan tribal region traced a new case of polio as a minor girl was affected by the virus.
Taliban have banned the polio vaccination in Waziristan as a protest against the US drone strikes and concerns that the polio teams could use the campaign for espionage.
The series of attacks on the polio vaccination teams in recent months have affected the anti-polio drive.
The UN Secretary General is expected to hold meetings with the President‚ the Prime Minister‚ Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security‚ Speaker National Assembly‚ women parliamentarians and other high officials.
Ban-Ki Moon will also take part in the Independence Day celebrations besides attending a number of functions including events on Polio eradication‚ youth education and inauguration of the Centre of Peace and Security at National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad.
