Nation celebrates Independence Day on Wednesday

The day will dawn with thirty one gun salute in the federal and twenty one gun salute at the provincial capitals.
Special prayers will be offered for the prosperity‚ integrity and solidarity of the country‚ unity of the Muslim Ummah and for those who have sacrificed lives for the creation of Pakistan. The people will pay homage to founder of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for his struggle to get an independent and Islamic state for the Muslims of the sub-continent.
It will be a public holiday throughout the country.
The main event of the day will be a flag hoisting ceremony at Convention Center in Islamabad‚ where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be the chief guest. It will be followed by the address of the Prime Minister to the nation.
Flag hoisting ceremonies would also be held at the provincial capitals and district headquarters besides other important national institutions.
The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will also attend the Independence Day celebrations.
TV channels, Radio Pakistan and FM radio stations will broadcast a special full day transmission on the Independence Day. Newspapers will bring out special supplements to highlight the struggle for Pakistan.
People will visit the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and great thinker and philosopher Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal to pay homage to them. An impressive ceremony of ‘change of guard’ also took place at Mazar-e-Quaid.
All the cities and districts of the country celebrating the Day especially the children are enthusiastically purchasing national flags, buntings, posters, stickers and candles to decorate their homes on the day.
A number of social, cultural and literary organizations and educational institutes have chalked out various programs to mark the day.
Key government buildings including the Parliament House, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Prime Minister’s House, President House, Secretariat and other important places in the capital have been illuminated as part of Independence Day celebrations.
Federal and provincial governments are also taking security measures with additional deployment of personnel to thwart any untoward incident.
