Player of Islamabad’s standoff in ‘critical’ condition
Friday, August 16th, 2013 11:45:51 by Tahir KhanThe armed man, who relatively held Islamabad hostage for nearly six hours Thursday and was injured in police firing, is in ‘critical condition’ and the doctors are trying to save his life, doctors and spokesman for the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences said Friday.
Sikandar Hayat was shot and injured by the police sniffers seconds after PPP leader‚ Zamurad Khan‚ jumped to grab him on the Constitutional Avenue, close to the Red Zone. He was hit by three bullets.
According to doctors at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences‚ Sikandar was operated upon and then admitted to Intensive Care Unit.
His condition is still critical, Dr Ayesha told reporters at PIMS on Friday. She said Sikandar is still on ventilator. “His blood pressure is normal.”
The gunman was also accompanied by his two children.
Khan reached close to the gunman there and pretending to meet children of the culprit‚ tried to grapple him. The gunman fired at Khan but he escaped unhurt. Two police personnel and Sikandar’s wife were injured. She is also being treated in PIMS and is stated to be out of danger.
The police registered case against Sikanadar, including charges of terrorism.
Doctor Ayesha at the hospital said that he had received two bullet wounds, including one in his lower chest that pierced his liver and then into the lumbar region.
The other bullet struck him in the leg and caused a fracture. He is currently undergoing a surgery and that his condition is serious.
She added that his wife also received a gunshot wound, but is now stable.
