PM Nawaz Sharif visits floods-hit areas in Punjab
Saturday, August 17th, 2013 3:48:04 by Tahir KhanPrime Minster Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Saturday visited floods-affected people in parts of Punjab province and assured them that the government will provide all possible assistance for the relief and rehabilitation of flood hit people.
He was speaking at a briefing at Baddu Malhi in Narowal after taking an aerial view of the situation caused by floods in Sialkot‚ Narowal and adjoining areas.
The Prime Minister was briefed by concerned authorities regarding the flood situation‚ losses and the steps taken for the rescue and relief of the affectees.
Federal Ministers‚ Pervez Rashid and Ahsan Iqbal also accompanied the Prime Minister.
As many as 30 villages have been inundated as the water level in River Indus increased at Dadu-Moro Bridge.
The Provincial Disaster Management Cell has issued warning after the situation and people have been asked to vacate the affected areas.
The floods are also likely to hit some parts of Sukkur and Larkana.
Sindh Secretary for Irrigation Babar Afandi alongwith Deputy Commissioner Larkana Mirza Nasir Ali visited the various bunds of the district yesterday.
He directed that strengthening work on various bunds should be completed in time and to make all out efforts to face the emergency of flood in this area and beef up intensive patrolling on the bunds round-the-clock.
Meanwhile‚ Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Muhammad Nawaz Soho has established two District flood/rain relief control rooms in order to monitor and keep close liaison with all line departments and stakeholders during rain emergency.
The District Emergency Operation Control Rooms have started functioning with Telephone No. 022-9200956 and District Control Room with Telephone No. 0229200570-71 at the camp office of the Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad.
