Gunman Sikandar’s wife remanded to police for seven days
Monday, August 19th, 2013 10:28:25 by Tahir KhanKanwal‚ the wife of the gunman Sikandar Hayat, was on Monday remanded to the Islamabad police for interrogation, court officials said.
She was produced in the Anti-Terrorist Court in Islamabad under tight security.
The ATC judge Atiq-ur-Rehman granted physical remand on the police request to question her about the whole drama in the capital city.
The Supreme Court is also hearing the incident on a notice by the Chief Justice of Pakistan. He had taken notice on a petition by Tariq Asad advocate against the media coverage of the event.
Kanwal’s two children have not yet been handed over to her and the police say they will be allowed to live with mothers at the end of physical remand.
The police had registered a case against her, considering her accomplice in the crime of relatively holding Islamabad as hostage for over five hours last week.
The standoff ended after the police shot and injured Sikandar.
Doctors at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), said Monday that Sikandar’s condition has further improved and he has now started taking oral diet.
The police has not yet recorded his statement due to his serious condition.
PIMS spokesman Dr Wasim Khawaja, told reporters on Monday that Sikandar could now talk and his vital signs, including blood pressure, are stable.
He said Sikandar would be kept in the liver intensive care unit (ICU) for further few days. Any decision regarding his shifting to the normal ward would be made by the doctors on further improving his condition.
He said that Prof Dr Rizwan Taj had examined Sikandar’s mental condition and would submit his report to the PIMS Executive Director on Monday. He said during sessions Dr Taj had observed whether Sikandar was suffering from any psychiatry problem or mental disorders.
