President Karzai sacks Attorney General over Taliban meeting
Monday, August 19th, 2013 12:35:13 by Tahir KhanAfghan President Hamid Karzai has sacked the Attorney General, Muhammad Aloko, over his secret meeting with the Taliban officials in UAE.
Reports suggest that Aloko had met members of the Taliban’s peace negotiation team in Dubai without permission from the government.
“President Hamid Karzai has sacked his attorney general after the chief law officer held an unsanctioned meeting with Taliban peace negotiators in the United Arab Emirates.”
Aloko was appointed as attorney general in 2008.
There is no official confirmation of the report.
It is said that President Karzai has yet to sign a document to dismiss the country’s attorney general.
Taliban sources say that some of their Qatar-based representatives have moved to Dubai for contacts with Afghans and the world community.
The NewsPakistan has leant that senior Taliban negotiators Maulvi Shahbuddin Dilawar and Sher Abbas Stanakzai have rented houses in Dubai to meet people.
Taliban sources say that the Taliban leaders have moved out of Qatar because of restrictions by the Qatari officials and close monitoring by the American intelligence.
An Afghan government delegation had also met the Taliban negotiators in Dubai last month following the stalemate of the Qatar dialogue process. The delegation was headed by the Peace Council official, Masoum Stanakzai. Karzai’s elder brother Abdul Qayyum Karzai was also part of the delegation.
