PML-N leads in by-polls: Unofficial results

The unofficial results of the by-elections on National and Provincial Assemblies seats across the country suggest the PML-N has won majority seats.  

By-elections were held for fifteen National Assembly and twenty six Provincial Assembly seats.  

According to National Assembly results‚ Pakistan Muslim League-N have bagged five seats‚ Pakistan Peoples Party three‚ Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf two‚ MQM‚ Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and Awami National Party one seat each.

The results of two National Assembly seats NA-5 Nowshera and NA-27 Laki Marwat have been withheld and re-polling will be held in some polling stations.

The election on NA-25 D.I. Khan-Tank was postponed due to security.

In Punjab Assembly‚ PML-N won eleven seats‚ PPP and PTI two seats.

In Sindh Assembly‚ MQM captured three seats‚ PML-N two and PPP one.

In Balochistan Assembly‚ PML-N got two seats and independent candidate won one seat.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa JUI-F and PTI got each one seat and an independent one seat.

The election commission ordered re-polling in two National Assembly constituencies in the northwest on a directive of the high court after reports that women had been barred from voting.

The by-election results will not affect the government in the center and four provinces because of sound position. However, it was a test case to check popularity of the ruling and opposition parties. 

As many as 519 candidates were in the run for 41 seats — 15 of national and 26 of provincial assemblies.

A low voter turnout was reported from most parts of the country. According to media reports, few people turned up for voting due to a general lack of interest in the by-election.

Elections were relatively peaceful however a bomb attack on an army truck in the port city of Karachi killed a soldier and a civilian late Thursday. The troops were returning from election duty.

Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
