Lahore police remove PTI protest camp
Saturday, August 24th, 2013 12:46:23 by Tahir KhanPolice in Lahore on Saturday removed Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf camp set up against the alleged rigging in by-elections.
The police also detained nearly 12 activists of PTI, who wanted to start hunger strike in the camp on the busy Mall Road, the PTI leaders said.
Police said the authorities have already imposed section 144 and protest cannot be held on Mall Road. A police officer said PTI had not sought permission for the camp and that it would affect movement of the people.
A PTI leader Ijaz Chahdhry said the party will continue protest despite the police action.
Chaudhry, president PTI Punjab, told reporters at the camp that the elections were rigged and protest is the right of the party.
He said the police have also arrested activists from different parts of Lahore in the morning.
The police also took Chaudhry into custody and all arrested people, including women activists, were taken away in a police van.
PTI which lost its Peshawar and Mianwali seats say that the by-polls were also rigged, the claim rejected by political rivals.
Chairman of PTI Imran Khan had also issued a white papers on August 21 about the alleged rigging.
PML-N has advised the PTI leadership to approach election tribunals about rigging.
