Gunmen kill spokesman of Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat in Karachi
Sunday, August 25th, 2013 9:15:28 by Tahir KhanUnidentified gunmen shot dead spokesman of Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat (ASWJ) in Karachi on Sunday, police said.
The gunmen riding a motorcycle fired at ASWJ spokesperson Maulana Akbar Saeed Farooqui at Safari Park in Karachi, critically injuring him.
He was transferred to a nearby private hospital where he died of wounds, doctors said.
A leader of the ASWJ Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi confirmed Saeed’s death and said the government had not provided security to the slain leader.
Doctors at the Liaquat National Hospital had earlier stated that Farooqui had suffered two gun wounds in the head.
The gunmen, , wearing helmets, fled after the attack.
No group claimed responsibility. The police however described the incident as sectarian.
Shortly after the incident supporters of ASWJ surrounded the hospital and chanted slogans against the attack.
The ASWJ leader Muhammad Ahmed Ludhyanvi condemned the attack and said the government has failed to check terrorism.
