Nawaz Sharif unhappy at removal of PTI camp in Lahore
Sunday, August 25th, 2013 5:42:53 by Tahir KhanPrime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, in a veiled reference to the police action against PTI activists in Lahore, has said peaceful protest is an inalienable right of all Pakistanis and directed the Punjab government to ensure no violation in this regard.
Police in Lahore Saturday removed a PTI camp set up against the alleged rigging in the by-elections and also arrested dozens of activists, including some leaders.
The arrested leaders and supporters were later released who ended protest. They plan to stage protest again on Monday.
Talking to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on telephone‚ the Prime Minister said democracy and peaceful protests are interlinked.
He said the Punjab government must ensure that no authority creates any impediment in the way of this constitutional right of all citizens including the political parties.
He said all issues should be resolved through dialogue.
The Punjab gov’t says there is a ban on gathering on the Mall Road and the PTI cam hold protest at any other place.
