Islamabad gunman’s wife handed over to police on 2-day physical remand
Monday, August 26th, 2013 11:06:52 by Tahir KhanThe Anti-Terrorism Court‚ Islamabad on Monday handed over Kanwal‚ one of main characters of the Islamabad firing incident on 15 August‚ to police on a two-day physical remand.
Earlier‚ the police presented Kanwal before the court and requested for a three-day physical remand.
She was earlier sent on a seven-day physical remand and a one-day transit remand prior to the Monday’s remand.
On August 15, her husband Sikandar Hayat had created panic in Islamabad for over five hours and the standoff ended when police sniffers shot and injured him. He carried two machine guns and fired few times in the air and had refused to surrender.
In a statement to police, Kanwal, who was also injured by a misfired bullet from Sikandar’s gun during the final showdown, said they had been in Islamabad for a couple of days and stayed at a hotel in Aabpara.
She said her husband had been a serious drug addict up until 2009 but had later sought treatment for his addiction.
Sikandar was also accompanied by his two children who are now in police custody. Sikandar, who is being treated at PIMS, has not yet been presented before the court due to his health condition.
