Bomber kills senior Afghan official, three guards

A bomb blast Friday killed a senior Afghan official and his three guards in northern Afghan province of Kunduz, the police said.

The administrative chief of the Dashti-i-Archi district, Sheikh Saddruddin wanted to attend a special prayer for a deceased relative in a mosque when the bomber targeted him.

“ As he approached the compound the bombing took place. He and three his bodyguards dead on the spot , ” deputy provincial police chief Abadullah Talwar said, media reported.

He said the blast took place at around 8:30 a.m. local time in Qarluq area of the district, located in eastern part of the provincial capital Kunduz city, 240 km north of national capital Kabul.

The number of casualties might go up as an investigation was underway into the incident, the police official added.

No group claimed the responsibility for the attack so far. Taliban are blamed for attacks on officials.

Taliban have increased attacks in recent days and launched major attacks on Afghan and foreign forces.
