Cabinet to approve Karachi’s “targeted operation”

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had convened the meeting in Karachi on the second day of his visit to the city.
The meeting would discuss and approve a comprehensive strategy to take action against criminals and target killers to restore peace and economic activities in the city, official sources said.
Before the cabinet meeting‚ the Prime Minister would hold meetings with the heads of concerned law enforcing agencies and other stakeholders to finalise a plan in this regard.
A high level meeting on law and order situation was also held which discussed options to restore peace in the city.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan‚ Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid‚ DG ISI‚ DG Rangers and senior officials of law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.
Meanwhile‚ Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and discussed with him law and order situation in Karachi.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister met leaders of all political parties and businessmen and sought their consent about the possible action.
Eleven people were killed on the first day of the two-day visit of the Prime Minister.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan says that nearly 1800 people were killed in targeted attacks in the first six months of the year.
