PM chairs National Command Authority meet following US report

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is presiding over a meeting of the National Command Authority in Islamabad following US media reports that Americans have allocated billions of dollars to monitor Pakistan’s nuclear programme.

The meeting is holding in-depth discussion on the recent tension at the Line of Control and the fallout of any US attack on Syria.

The National command authority is the principal forum responsible for command and control of the country’s nuclear arsenal. It also looks after the security and safety of nuclear installations.

The meeting is being attended by Foreign Affairs and National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz‚ Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali‚ Finance Minister Ishaq Dar Chairman‚ Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee‚ the three services chiefs and the chief of Strategic Plans Division.

Pakistan on Tuesday dismissed fears over the security of its nuclear programme following American media reports that the United States has intensified surveillance of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and tries to evaluate the loyalty of Pakistani counter terrorism agents recruited by the CIA.

“Washington Post” reports that the documents available with the paper reveal broad new levels of mistrust in an already fragile security partnership and US efforts to gather intelligence on Pakistan are more extensive than previously disclosed by US officials.

Responding to a query regarding a Washington Post story, the Foreign Ministry said Pakistan has established extensive physical protection measures, robust command and control institutions under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, comprehensive and effective export controls regulatory regimes to ensure safety and security of nuclear installations and materials.

“We follow best international practices and standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

This is not a new debate…..Pakistan already has assured the safety and security mechanism…interestingly part is the irrelevant people do comment on strategic issues and are covered by the media….whereas the relevant authorities whoever they are if in US or Pakistan are aware of the systems in place ,,,,,,and the political elites like Nawaz Sharif (made Pakistan proud in 1998 )is aware of that …Pakistan follow the international practices, learnt from the experiences and so on…..having grip on the technology and confident on the system in placed…

Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power and has always been concerned about the effects of using nuclear weapons. Pakistan’s intentions are positive and will also remain. Further it has safe and sound nuclear weapon program and there is no need for USA to poke its nose into the surveillance program of Pakistan.

Washington Post” reports that the documents available with the paper reveal broad new levels of mistrust in an already fragile security partnership and US efforts to gather intelligence on Pakistan are more extensive than previously disclosed by US officials. It was the same USA which considered Pakistan as front line ally. very shameful act by US.

The Government of Pakistan declared this very openly to the world that its nuclear weapons program is in ‘absolute security’ and entirely immune from any kinds of odds. After this open admission, there is no second opinion to question about the safety and security of Pakistani nukes. This has been repeated once again that Pakistan stands very firm on the lines of ‘credible minimum deterrence.’ It works primarily in the direction of its strengthening national security particularly and also for the maintenance of strategic stability of the region at large. Despite of so much international hue and cry, the nuclear weapons of Pakistan are in the responsible hands. The state very aptly knows how to move with nuclear weapons and maintain international security mechanism to give protection to its nuclear weapons despite of any mandatory obligations.
