Pakistan Defence Day being celebrated with traditional zeal
Friday, September 6th, 2013 10:10:17 by Tahir KhanDefense of Pakistan Day is being observed on Friday with traditional zeal and the nation is paying homage to the martyrs who sacrificed for the defense and security of the country.
On this day in 1965‚ the whole nation stood united to foil enemy’s nefarious designs and armed forces effectively defended country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty against aggression.
The day dawned with Quran Khawni at mosques for the martyrs and special prayers for the solidarity‚ prosperity and integrity of the country and liberation of occupied Muslim territories including Kashmir and Palestine.
The national flag is hoisted at all Formation Headquarters‚ Units and Army installations.
Hilal-e-Istiqlal is hoisted in the cities of Lahore‚ Sargodha and Sialkot where citizens alongside armed forces braved enemy’s aggression with valiancy and caused enemy an ignominious defeat.
Floral wreaths were laid at the memorials of all the Nishan-e-Haider recipients and other martyrs of 1965 war to pay homage to them.
A guard mounting ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi where a smartly turned out contingent of cadets will take over guard duties.
A change of guard ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Iqbal where jawans of Pak army took charge of security duties from Punjab Rangers.
Major General Shahid Mirza Baig‚ GOC Lahore laid a floral wreath at the mazar and offered fateh.
Defence Day is also being observed in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
A ceremony of change of guard was held at mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi on Friday morning.
Ninety-six guards of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Academy Risalpur took over guard duties.
Air officer commanding PAF Academy Risalpur Air Vice Marshal Rashid Kamal inspected the parade and took salute.
He laid the floral wreath on the mazar and offer Fateha. The female cadets were also the part of the contingent which has assumed the guards duty today.
A large number of PAF Officers and citizens attended the ceremony.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif in their separate messages on the occasion have stressed the need to imbibe the spirit of September 6 this year as the country is confronted with external and internal threats.
In his message‚ the President said the defence day gives an abiding lesson to the nation that no aggression can succeed as long as the people are united fighting for the cause and our brave soldiers are standing ready to guard our frontiers and shed blood for it.
In his message‚ the Prime Minister said the defence day helps us in reinvigorating the spirit of patriotism as the country is facing multiple security challenges in shape of extremism‚ terrorism and external aggression.
PM Nawaz Sharif said the entire nation stands alongside our defence forces to thwart all evil designs of enemies of Pakistan.
