Sartaj Aziz leaves for Bishkek to represent Pakistan in SCO summit
Thursday, September 12th, 2013 12:18:28 by Tahir KhanAdvisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, was scheduled to leave for Bishkek on Thursday, to represent Pakistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, officials said.
The summit will be held on Friday.
Sartaj Aziz will hold an important meeting with Indian external affairs Minister Salman Khurshid that can pave the way for the summit of the prime ministers of the two countries in New York later this month.
Both the leaders will discuss bilateral issues and proposed meeting of the prime ministers of two countries in New York expected to be held on the sidelines of UN General Assembly session later this month.
They will also discuss issue of tension on Line of Control besides avenues to restore Pak-India dialogue for resolving outstanding issues.
Pakistan enjoys the observer status in the SCO and is seeking a full membership status of the organization.
The SCO’s policies and programs are in consonance with Pakistan’s long term objectives of promoting peace and stability in the region‚ containing and eradicating the menace of terrorism from the region and working with members to build stronger and more productive relationship in the future.
