Nine NATO oil tankers destroyed in Balochistan attack
Friday, September 13th, 2013 10:40:24 by Tahir KhanUnidentified attackers in Balochistan Friday fired rockets on tankers, carrying oil for NATO forces in neighbourig Afghanistan, and destroyed nine tankers, officials said.
A driver was killed and two others were injured in the attack in Qalat district, they said.
Oil tankers, parked outside a roadside hotel, were attacked with rockets by the unidentified men, residents said.
Nine oil tankers caught fire and the fire could not be extinguished due to the late arrival of the fire fighters. TV footage showed burning vehicles.
Officials said that the tankers were heading to Afghanistan from the Pakistani port city of Karachi when came under attack.
No group claimed responsibility. Militants groups are blamed for attacks on NATO trucks.
Taliban have in the past claimed responsibility for such attacks.
Officials say that nearly 70 percent supplies are transported to Afghanistan for around 150,000 NATO troops through Pakistan, the shortest and cheap route.
