PM Nawaz Sharif begins three-day visit to Turkey
Monday, September 16th, 2013 11:58:35 by Tahir KhanPrime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, embarked on a three-day official visit to Turkey on Monday for talks on bilateral and regional matters, focusing on economic cooperation, officials said.
The Prime Minister will meet the Turkish President Mr. Abdullah Gül as well as Prime Minister Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will also exchange views on regional and global issues, particularly on the developments in the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry says.
Key cabinet ministers including senior officials are accompanying the Prime Minister in his first visit to Turkey and second foreign since assuming office in June.
The two countries will sign several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding covering a wide range of areas such as security, finance, housing, education, culture, science and technology and trade, the Foreign Ministry said.
Sharif will address a business forum in Istanbul which will be attended by a large number of Turkish investors and entrepreneurs. He will also have separate individual meetings with leading Turkish CEOs and investors.
Several Leading Pakistani businessmen are also expected to attend the Business Forum. They will also interact with their Turkish counterparts to explore mutually beneficial business opportunities.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will have a site visit of an award winning low-cost housing project in Ankara, built for disadvantaged sections of the society.
“The prime minister’s meetings with the Turkish leadership and his interaction with the Turkish businessmen would be an excellent opportunity to reinforce Pakistan’s strong desire for forging a comprehensive strategic partnership with Turkey, aimed especially at bringing a qualitative and quantitative change in bilateral economic and trade relations,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
During his stay in Turkey, Nawaz Sharif and President Abdullah Gul and co-chair the third session of the High Level Cooperation Council (HLCC).
The HLCC at the prime ministerial level between Pakistan and Turkey was established during the visit of Prime Minister Erdogan to Pakistan in October 2009.
The HLCC is mandated to oversee and steer the unique partnership and intensify cooperation between the two countries.
In recognition of close and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Turkey, President of Turkey will confer the award “Republic Order” (Cumhuriyet Ni?an) in a special investiture ceremony upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
