Pakistan, India to discuss Khokhrapar/Monabao route forPak-India trade
Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 1:55:12 by Tahir KhanThe National Assembly was informed Wednesday that the decision to open Khokhrapar/Monabao route for normal trade between Pakistan and India had been taken at a meeting in Islamabad in February last year.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad informed the House during question hour that Ministry of Commerce has been designated to deal with this issue.
He hoped the government will be able to finalize the mechanism to initiate talks on this matter within three months.
The Minister said the government is working to fill all vacant ambassadorial slots in some of the important world capitals.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq expressed displeasure over the absence of most of ministers during question hour.
He said the ministers’ absence affect the house proceedings as members cannot receive replies to their questions.
Replying to a all attention notice moved by Sher Akbar Khan and others regarding overloaded power transformers of 220 KV in Grid Station at Mardan resulting in load-shedding in the district Mardan‚ Swabi and Buner‚ Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali told the House that transformer one‚ two and three are overloaded and there are power theft issues worth billions of rupees in these areas.
He said funds have now been made available and survey is in progress to upgrade and replace the transformers. He said soon this issue will be resolved.
