JUI-F faces political setback with losing traditional assembly seat
Thursday, September 19th, 2013 11:11:02 by Tahir KhanJamiat ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has faced a serious political setback with the defeat of Asad Mahmood, son of the party’s chief, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman in traditional constituency.
According to unofficial results of by-election in NA-25 constituency Dera Ismail Khan-cum-Tank‚ Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Engineer Dawar Khan Kundi has won the seat beating his closest rival Assad Mahmood of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F).
Kundi secured the NA seat with 64,218 votes in the complete result of all polling stations with JUI-F chief’s son, Asad Mehmood lagging behind with 52,315votes.
Some parties had extended support the PTI candidate to defeat the JUI-F candidate.
The JUI-F candidates have won the seat in previous three general elections and also on May 11 polls.
The Election Commission had earlier postponed over security reasons.
The JUI-F spokesman, Jan Assakzai, alleged rigging as loser come up with election fraud charges after defeat.
The JUI-F’s defeat reflects the mood of change in its traditional stronghold and the voters switched to other side of political divide.
Political parties must also think if the traditional family role will always work or the party’s sincere workers should also get the opportunity to reach the parliament.
The fast emerging PTI will have to come up with the expectations of the people as they have attached hopes to the slogan of a change and new Pakistan.
PTI is also under fire for favouratism in distribution of seats by the provincial leaders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The media has referred to the allocation of special women seats and also awarding tickets to relatives in the by-elections.
It is also shocking the the PTI top leaders have not taken notice of the distribution of seats on relationship.
Favouratism is seen as the worst type of corruption and Imran Khan must check this practice now.
