Members of the National Assembly Tuesday stressed that attack on Church in Peshawar should not be given religious colour because those involved in the killing of innocent persons have nothing to do with any religion.

They were taking part in debate on the terrorist attack on the Church on Sunday that killed 83 people and injured 130 others.

The lawmakers said the attack was not an isolated incident in Pakistan as other worship places including mosques are frequently being targeted.

“Those involved in these terror incidents are not humans. Some elements are trying to spread anarchy in the country but the entire nation will thwart their nefarious designs.”

They said a judicial commission should be constituted to investigate Peshawar tragedy.  The members said the Christians have always respected the constitution and upheld of rule of law. They said contributions of the Christian community particularly in the education sector cannot be overlooked.

Members belonging to treasury and opposition benches termed the Peshawar incident as a national tragedy and said it was not only an attack on Christians but also on the sovereignty of Pakistan.

They said those attacking worship places like churches and mosques have nothing to do with humanity and are not serving the cause of Islam and Pakistan. They said those involved in the despicable incident should be brought to justice.

The members said Peshawar tragedy was not an ordinary incident but aimed at destabilizing the country. They said some foreign elements want to spread chaos in the country but the nation is ready to render any sacrifice to foil their designs.

They said all the religions preach peace and brotherhood and abhor violence but some elements are trying to create differences among different segments of the society.

They said no area of the country is safe from terror acts which have claimed the lives of not only army personnel but also innocent civilians.

They said the entire nation stands by the Christian community in this hour of grief and pain. They said Islam gives respect and protection to the followers of other religions and attacking them will amount to disregard to the Islamic teachings.

Minorities’ members asked Christians community to remain peaceful during protest demonstrations and avoid ransacking and arson of public property.

Those who have so far taken part in the discussion include Tariq Christopher Qaiser‚ Makhdoom Javed Hashmi‚ Asiya Nasir‚ Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho‚ Kamran Michael‚ Shireen Mazari‚ Khalil George‚ Sajid Ahmad‚ Romania Khurshid Alam‚ Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqoob and Arif Alvi.
