PM to announce special package for earthquake-hit people
Friday, September 27th, 2013 4:38:24 by Tahir KhanPrime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, would soon announce a special package for relief and rehabilitation of the quake-hit people of Balochistan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Friday said after visiting the earthquake-hit areas in Awaran district.
He said the package would take care of immediate and long term needs of the quake affected areas. He announced that Punjab government would provide jobs to all graduates from Awaran.
Balochistan Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also accompanied him.
The Chief Minister said Punjab has donated 15‚000 tents and a C-130 load-of-food and other relief items for the affected people.
Balochistan Chief Minister thanked Federal and Punjab Governments for their generous assistance.
Dr. Malik said he would personally visit all affected areas and asked media to pinpoint if someone remains unattended during relief and rehabilitation process.
The National Assembly was informed on Friday that relief and rescue operation in quake affected areas of Awaran and Kech areas of Balochistan is in full swing and there is no shortage of relief goods.
In a policy statement in the House‚ Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch said the affected people have requested that relief and rehabilitation work must be carried out under the supervision of Army.
He said about one hundred thousand people have been affected by the earthquake.
The Minister said thirty doctors including female gynecologist have arrived in the affected areas to provide treatment facilities to the victims.
He said Pakistan Army has also established an Operation Room in quake affected areas.
The Minister said the government has not yet sought any foreign assistance but he appealed the NGOs and philanthropists to come forward and play their role for the relief and rehabilitation of affected people.
