Death toll from Saturday’s Balochistan earthquake reaches 22

The death toll has risen to 22 people and 500 injured in from Saturday’s earthquake in Awaran district, officials said Sunday.

The major 7.2 intensity of tremours shook Quetta‚ Khuzdar‚ Awaran‚ Kech‚ Pangur‚ Jaffarabad‚ Naseerabad‚ Chaghi‚ Dera Allah Yar‚ Dalbandin‚ Kashmore‚ Karachi‚ Larkana‚ Dadu and Shahdad Kot.

It was the second earthquake in Balochistan in five days.

Balochistan government Spokesman Jan Muhammad Buledi said that a number of houses were demolished in the village. Rescue teams have been sent to the areas to carry out rescue activities.

Deputy Commissioner Awaran District Rashid Baloch said local people and administration are retrieving the people from the debris. He said the earthquake has badly disrupted the communication infrastructure in the area.

A spokesman of FC says several FC posts have been damaged in the quake. He said hundreds of mud houses have also been collapsed.

According to the Met Office‚ the epicenter of the tremor was about one hundred and fifty kilometers from Khuzdar.

On Tuesday the 7.6 powerful earthquake had killed nearly 300 people and affected three hundred thousands.
