International Peace Day Seminar Organized by Institute of Peace & Diplomacy Islamabad
Monday, September 30th, 2013 5:55:37 by News Pakistan AdminISLAMABAD: Institute of Peace and Diplomacy (IPD) and National Youth Parliament jointly organised a seminar on “Finding Connections: Interfaith Harmony and Dialogue among Cultures” in connection with the International Peace Day at National Library of Pakistan, Islamabad.
The speakers expressing their views said that as a nation we all have to foster forward ideologies and thoughts given by Jinnah and his fellow companions during Pakistan movement. We also need to realize and understand about the enemy within us, acting not only against interfaith harmony but peace within this country as well. Islam is a religion of peace and intolerance is not related to any religion but it is connected to human nature.
They strongly condemned the brutal and insane killings of innocent civilians in Peshawar and a consensus amongst the participants was that these miscreants have nothing to do with any religion and do not belong to any faith.
Earlier in her welcome address, Ms. Farhat Asif, President, Institute of Peace and Diplomacy, gave an introduction about the work of IPD.
Nadeem Umar, Director National College of Arts, Rawalpindi, was of the opinion that every religion in the world has their right to preach their religion with full independence. We should tolerate the coexistence of other religions should not force the others to either convert or stop preaching their religion.
Barrister Zafarullah Khan said according to different religions and science, all of the mankind are from one couple but we have become very intolerant for each other be it for other religions or sects in the same religion. He said intolerance is not related to religion or being secular but it is related to human nature. All of mankind, no matter which faith they belong to, has to stand up, be united and take responsibility, he added.
Allama Ijaz Qadri said Islam teaches us about peace and harmony. It guides us to help others and never hurt the dignity of others. He said Allah, in Quran says that killing one man is equal to the killing of the whole mankind. Hence, Islam is a religion of peace, he added.
Romina Khursid, PML-N MNA condemned the bombing of Church at Peshawar and said youth should play their active role in understanding the ideas of culture and faith. They are actually our future leaders, she added.
Naeem Mushtaq, renowned scholar on interfaith harmony raised very important point that all the religions in the world teach us about peace and love. It is us humans who are at fault. No religion guides you to bomb any other nation but it is human nature that forces us do it, he said adding that every human should understand his own religion. Christian should understand and comprehend Christianity; Muslims should read and understand Quran and Sunnah. We can only create peace and interfaith harmony through informed dialogue, he added.
Touseef Abbasi, President of the National Youth Parliament, thanked guests and speakers for their valuable time and contribution towards a noble cause.
