The British High Commission in Pakistan this week launched the “Celebrating Connections” short film competition to provide aspiring film makers from across Pakistan with a platform of recognition for their creative expressions. The competition aims to foster artistic collaboration between the UK and Pakistan.

Filmmakers and film enthusiasts from all over Pakistan are invited to express their views on the connections between the UK and Pakistan. Films entered into the competition should be no longer than seven minutes, and can be produced as either an animation, a documentary and or a piece of fiction.

Shortlisted filmmakers will be invited to attend an awards ceremony in Islamabad in November 2013, where a winner will be selected by a jury of renowned Pakistani and British media personalities. The winners will have their entry showcased on the big screen in a starry event in Islamabad.

The deadline for entries is 9 November 2013. Details for submitting your film entries are on the British High Commission Pakistan FaceBook page: facebook.com/bhcpakistan.

Launching the competition, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Adam Thomson said:

“The 2013 UK-Pakistan Celebrating Connections Short Film Competition will provide an unprecedented opportunity for aspiring and established Pakistani filmmakers to obtain nationwide recognition. The competition encourages professional filmmakers, students, and the general public alike to submit feature films. In keeping with the competition’s theme “UK-Pakistan Celebrating Connections”, all film submissions must prominently convey in some way the romance, mystery, and cultural richness of the connections between our two great countries.

“There are so many brilliant stories to be told. The lives of our citizens are connected through travel and trade, family and culture, history and food. Nearly one million British citizens claim Pakistani heritage. There are 1.4 million journeys between Pakistan and the UK each year. For Pakistan, Britain is open for business and tourism, and we attract the brightest and best to study in our universities.

“I am positive that this competition will serve as a model for future cultural collaboration between the UK and Pakistan – one that strengthens further the connections between our two countries.”
