Parliamentary committee to monitor Balochistan earthquake relief
Thursday, October 3rd, 2013 4:13:40 by Tahir KhanChief Minister Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik has said a parliamentary committee will be set up to monitor relief operation and rehabilitation of people affected by the quake in Balochistan.
Speaking at a meeting in Quetta Thursday‚ the Chief Minister said rehabilitation is a big challenge after the rescue operation. He said ERRA has offered to construct low cost houses in the affected areas.
The Chief Minister said that schools‚ roads and health centers would be constructed in the quake-affected areas of the province.
Earlier‚ Director General National Disaster Management Authority briefed the Chief Minister and members of Balochistan Assembly on relief activities in the affected areas.
He said that more than two thousand troops and six helicopters of Pakistan Army are engaged in relief operations.
He said that twenty-eight doctors and fifty-three paramedics are also providing treatment to the injured people in Awaran.
Officials say that nearly 350 people have been killed in the last month’s 7.6 intensity of earthquake in parts of Balochistan. They said that around three lakhs people have been affected.
