Moderate earthquake jolts Northern Pakistan
Saturday, October 5th, 2013 2:00:35 by Tahir KhanAn earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale struck parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern areas on Saturday, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.
There were no reports of any casualties and damage.
The tremors were felt in Chitral‚ Ghizer, Swat and other adjoining areas.
According to Meteorological Department‚ the epicenter of the earthquake was on Afghanistan-Tajikistan border at a depth of 80 kilometers.
At many places, people rushed out of their homes and offices and began praying.
Over 350 people were killed and three hundred thousands affected in two major earthquake in Balochistan late last month.
The first 7.6 on Richter scale devastated areas in Awaran district near the Iranian border. A second of 7.2 also caused more deaths and damages.
Pakistan is located on earthquake fault line and the country had affected by many powerful earthquake.
In October 2005, a high intensity quake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale jolted parts of Balochistan, causing large scale destruction and killing over 80,000 people besides leaving millions others homeless.
