‘Pakistan Protection Ordinance’ Announced to Tighten the Noose around Terrorists

Monday, October 21st, 2013 3:30:21 by
Under the Pakistan Protection Ordinance, an official copy of which is yet to be released any person involved in terrorism related activities will get a minimum punishment of ten years imprisonment under Article 7 of the Constitution as explained in Chapters VI, VII, VIII and IX of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, Pakistan Arms Act, or Foreigners Act 1946, etc.

This was promulgated by the President Secretariat in the form of a handout on Sunday.
The handout stated: “The extraordinary disposition dictates unusual dispensation. New legislative initiatives have been proposed in line with international best practices to declare that: The constitution and rule of law shall be our overarching umbrella.”

“Writ of the state shall be restored with full might of the law; those to pursue fruit of terror and fear, regardless of nationality, colour, creed or religion shall be treated as enemy aliens and dealt with strictly without any compunction.”

Under the previous laws, a culprit charged under the aforementioned chapters could get away with merely a fine.

The ordinance also provides more legal cover to the civil and military intelligence agencies, creates a room for federal government to intervene in the provincial affair under dire circumstances and puts a bar on the activities of Afghans who made Pakistan their home ever since 1979, and are actively involved in anti-law activities.
