About seven people have been killed and more than 16 injured after a bomb placed on the track hit a passenger train travelling from Rawalpindi to Quetta.

The blast occurred when the train was travelling through the Notal area in the Nasir Abad District, about 200 Kilometers away from the restive city of Quetta, the capital of the Balochistan Province, which is home to a number of foreign funded insurgency movements, militant and banned sectarian groups like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.

The explosion targeting the Jaffar Abad Express left a huge crater, and the area has been sealed by the law enforcement agencies. All the injured from the blast have been transferred to the Dera Murad Jamali hospital.

So far, no group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
