Imran Khan challenges the appointment of Chaudhry Qamar Zaman as NAB chief

The chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has challenged the appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chaudhry Qamar Zaman in the Supreme Court. The petition citing the objection was submitted by Imran’s council Hamid Khan in the apex court today, Tuesday, October 29, 2013.

The petition in which federal government and the appointed chief of NAB have been named as respondents, states that the latter’s appointment was made as a result of a shifty deal between the ruling Pakistan Muslim League PML (N) and Pakistan People’s Party PPP. It adds that the appointment was made in violation of Article 6 of the constitution as some of the mandatory legal requirements were overlooked blatantly.

The petition also demanded an immediate removal of the Zaman as NAB’s chief, whose name had been finalized by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and opposition leader Khursheed Shah on Oct 9.

PTI had announced on the very next day that they will oppose this appointment and have true on their words, after 18 days.
