Wednesday, October 30th, 2013 2:33:28 by Ahmad MehdiChief Justice Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry commented on the situation in Karachi at the three-judge Supreme Court hearing of the Karachi law and order implementation case on Wednesday.
He was critical of the performance of agencies, including Maritime Security Agency (MSA), Coast Guards and Customs, and their inability to prevent smuggling and crime in the city.
The Chief Justice also expressed disappointment over the easy availability of arms and ammunitions in the whole country. According to him, if all the security agencies in the country work together, they can easily control the law and order situation and prevent the prevalent security breaches in Karachi.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja also spoke on the matter, asking the security agencies to focus on their prime responsibilities and not ignore the wellbeing of the city and its people. He further stressed that the agencies need to be more proactive rather than merely apprehending Indian fishermen from Pakistani waters.
