Supreme Court orders Karachi custom officials to investigate missing containers
Friday, November 1st, 2013 2:50:12 by Ahmad MehdiHearing the Karachi law and order implementation case, the Supreme Court of Pakistan asked custom officials to look into the matter of 19,000 missing containers.
Chief Justice Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry headed the three-judge bench in the hearing which was conducted at the Karachi Registry.
The court asked the officials to present a report in regards to the number of missing arms containers and also investigate the smuggling of arms into the city.
Previously, the Supreme Court suspended SSP Junaid Shaikh, who was asked to appear in court to report on the Shera Pathan murder case.
Shera Pathan was killed along with Arshad Pappu and his brother after they were tortured and their dead bodies paraded.
The Attorney General of Pakistan, Muneer A Malik, told the court that the government has plans to launch a joint operation in the city to battle the prevalence of drugs and ammunications.
According to the Attorney General, the operation will utilize intelligence gathered from various agencies.
