US efforts to control poppy cultivation in Afghanistan fail

According to sources in Afghanistan, the production of poppy in the country has increased even further this year despite efforts by the United States to curb it. Geo News reported that a full report on the issue is expected from the United Nations soon.

The United States has reportedly spent over $7 billion in its efforts to control and curb the production of poppy but anti-narcotics experts and officials say the market has grown over time instead of being decreased.

United Nation’s anti narcotics panel attributed the failure to the use of drug money to combat its efforts against poppy production.
